Future Greats by Art Review: Gabriel Rodríguez Pellecer

Future Greats by ArtReview is a project in which well-established artists and ArtReview editors spotlight artists who they think are deserving of more attention.

This edition of the magazine also reconsiders that which we call “art”, and draws special attention to artists whose practice centers on exploring the new definitions of what constitutes the artistic medium.

Edgar Calel, Maya-Kaqchikel artist working in Guatemala, nominates Gabriel Rodríguez Pellecer for Future Greats’ 2024 edition. Gabriel considers himself an emissary, through which a variety of phenomena and energies can manifest themselves. He considers color as the artist and the maker as the medium, myths and tales as useful technologies, and his practice as a format to challenge the ways that western thought encroaches on other cosmogonies.
