Manuel Chavajay in “To Weave the Sky: Textile Abstractions”

Manuel Chavajay, artist represented by Galería Extra, is among the group of international artists selected to participate in "To Weave the Sky: Textile Abstractions" at El Espacio 23 gallery. Exhibiting never-before-seen textile pieces from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection, the exhibition creates dialogues between these works and the multidisciplinary practices of the participating artists.

Intrinsically tied to the abstract and the geometric, to the tactile and the intimate, and above all to indigenous ritual and cosmogony, weaving establishes itself in the contemporary art scene as an exemplary medium for discussing modern issues. "To Weave the Sky" seeks to broach this conversation, focusing on unraveling the contemporary fascination with the textile medium, which has been historically marginalized within the context of Western art.

"To Weave the Sky: Textile Abstractions" will be on view from November 2, 2023 to August 3, 2024 at El Espacio 23 (2270 NW 23rd Street, Miami, FL 33142).
