Moisés Barrios Wins the Premio Nacional Carlos Mérida 2025
Born in 1946, Guatemalan painter Moisés Barrios has explored natural resources as centers of life and as phenomena encompassing colonization and independence, the creation of the Republic, and migratory movements. His work also engages with landscape painting tied to the geography and social dynamics of the Pacific coast along Guatemala and other areas of the Central American region.
The Premio Nacional Carlos Mérida, awarded for contributions to art and culture through the visual arts, recognizes the multidisciplinary career that Barrios has cultivated since the 1980s.
The award will be presented on Tuesday, July 22 at 11:00 am at the Palacio Nacional de la Cultura.
