manuel chavajay: “Oq Ximtali” en “latinitudes”, Pina Praça Festival 2a. edition

The Pina Praça: Latinitudes Festival, in its second edition (July 26–27, 2025) at the Pinacoteca of São Paulo, is a free, multidisciplinary platform that explores Latin American identities through music, video, performance, workshops, a creative fair, and gastronomy.

The curatorial proposal is structured around two main themes:

  • Migration, borders, and transits, which invites reflection on displacement, cultural crossings, and identities in constant transformation.

  • Self-invention, belonging, memory, and celebration, which highlights the body as a living site of ancestry, resistance, and collective creativity.

“Oq Ximtali”, still de video.

A key part of the festival is the open-air video screenings, presented under the title Cine Praça. These sessions feature video-performances by Latin American artists, including works from the KADIST collection, such as those by Guatemalan artist Manuel Chavajay. These performative short films weave together ritual, ancestral memory, and critical embodiment—works that question history while affirming Indigenous identities within the continent.

In this way, the video-performance program becomes a vital layer of the festival, using moving images to narrate stories of transit, resistance, and cultural reinvention.
